The Nerdiest Place on Earth

If you have been keeping up with this blog, you know that I am a total sucker for visiting markets.  So when Chris asked me if I would like to join him for fondue and a trip to the Modern Electronics Market, I jumped at the chance.

So after a yummy lunch at Glismatten, a lovely fondue place in Tianzifang, we headed to Modern Electronics City.  (AKA The nerdiest place on earth.)

Welcome all ye nerds who enter here.

Modern Electronics City is a cross between Home Depot, and a bachelor garage sale.  If you need anything to support electronic devices created in the late 70’s until now, there is a good chance you can find it here.

Chris needed a particular HDMI cable for his Xbox, so we shoved our way through tech vendors with half smoked cigarettes hanging out of their mouths in search of the magic cord.  (You can’t blame them.  Apparently Chinese police officers were in the building to make sure everything was running smoothly. )  Click here for some background music to enhance the experience.

If you ever want to pretend you are a cool administrator, pick up one of these rockin' walkie talkies.

I have no idea why they keep the calculators in the case.

Eat your heart out Lowe's.

Chris brought our TV manual as a translation aid...good thinking!

In case you were looking for a shower drain...

Kids, before we had cell phones there was a thing called a landline...

I loved these fancy phones as a child.

They even had an Apple store inside!!!

I always wanted a Garfield phone.

Do you think I could pick up a Cardinal game on this one?

And we have a random hat vendor for the ladies.

They even sell bedazzled Monchichi iPhone cases!

Lloyd Dobbler wants his boom box back!

My parents had one of these...did yours?
They even sell crickets here!!

You know it is time to go when...

One hour and a few too many unnecessary purchases later, we decided to head home. One of these finds was a 5 watt laser pointer that "is so strong that it will light a match." As soon as we got in, Chris had to show off his new light a match with a laser pointer trick.  Here is how it turned out.
